The soon to release film Mary Kom has new composers Shashi Suman and Shivam Pathak marking their debut in the music industry. Finalists of the music reality show, Indian Idol 5, both deliver a good score in this movie.
The tone is set with the anthem-ish Ziddi dil composed by Shashi Suman and sung by Vishal Dadlani. Dadlani hardly has ever gone wrong in this category before and nails this one completely. Lyrics by Prashant Ingole perfectly complement Dadlani’s persuasive baritone vocals.
Sukoon mila, the quintessential romantic track has Arijit Singh doing what he does best. Pathak goes the usual melodic way and the track clicks for its simplicity and lyrics by Sandeep Singh.
Adhure starts with on a local note with un-credited folksy vocals and Sunidhi Chauhan delivers her vocals smoothly.
Teri baari has Mohit Chauhan crooning the inspirational track in the album with enough support from the backing vocals. Lyrics by Prashant Ingole do justice to the track like the earlier Ziddi dil track. We thought the track is mediocre and Mohit could have been better used.
Arijit Singh is back in Saudebaazi composed by Shashi and we like this one more than his earlier track in the album. With simple orchestral arrangements and interesting tune, Saudebaazi hooks you on. Pathak gets Dadlani and Salim Merchant on Salaam India. Completely upbeat with pacy arrangements and high-pitched vocals, this one’s a patriotic number.
Priyanka Chopra goes behind the mic for the lullaby Chaoro and she does impress with her silken vocals. This lori track is a true winner and quite a response to those doubting her singing skills.
Ziddi dil, Saudebaazi, Chaoro are our picks from Mary Kom.
Verdict: Composing for films centered on sports theme gives music directors ample scope and the debutants nail it completely.
