Much like 2018, this Independence Day saw two big releases, Mission Mangal and Batla House. The first film starring Akshay Kumar, Vidya Balan, Sonakshi Sinha, Taapsee Pannu, Nithya Menen, Kirti Kulhari Sehgal, Sharman Joshi and HG Dattatreya saw a bumper opening and was rock steady across its first weekend. It made a phenomenal Rs 95.22 crore over a four day weekend.
Batla House starring John Abraham and Mrunal Thakur in lead roles also earned fairly well. The positive reports resulted in the film clocking in Rs 44.18 crore after its first weekend consisting of four days.
Hollywood release Hobbs & Shaw, a spin-off of The Fast And The Furious franchise, stars Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham. The action film earned a decent Rs 67.82 crore after its second week at the box office. Super 30 continues its dream run. At the end of its fifth week, the Hrithik Roshan and Mrunal Thakur starrer has earned Rs 146.16 crore.
Sidharth Malhotra and Parineeti Chopra starrer Jabariya Jodi disappointed at the box office. The film, based on the issue of groom kidnapping, raked in an unimpressive Rs 16.10 crore after its first week.
