Akshay Kumar starrer, the sports biopic GOLD took a decent opening today and the film is expected to pick up by evening, thanks to good reports. Since Kumar is a huge draw, advance booking for the film was good and with word-of-mouth each passing show has been gaining momentum. Distributors pan-India share their views on the opening of the film and their outlook on its day one collections.
Debashish Dey, West Bengal
The opening of GOLD was very good. The noon shows were not all that great as it is a public holiday and people in Kolkata prefer to play football at this time, but the film opened to least 60-70 per cent occupancy. By evening and night, the shows will definitely pick up. This movie has terrific reports in my area. In my circuit, GOLD should earn around Rs 1.4 crore, and pan-India about Rs 18 crore, today.
Rajesh Thadani, Mumbai
GOLD is doing very well as today is a holiday and the lead actor Akshay Kumar is a big star. The film took a really good opening. In my territory, GOLD will earn more than Rs 7.5 crore today, and pan-India it could collect more than Rs 25 crore. There were more families in the audience during the morning and noon shows.
Gaurav Ruparel, Saurashtra
GOLD had around 50-55 per cent occupancy, and, by evening, this is expected to pick up as the reports are very good for the film. For a first day,GOLD should earn Rs 25-30 lakh in my circuit and Rs 15 crore all over India.
Jaspal Dhingra, East Punjab
GOLD has fared much better in multiplexes than in single screens. The reports of the film are really good and the family audience is coming to watch the film in droves. In my circuit, the movie is expected to earn Rs 2.5 crore, and all over India it might rake in Rs 20 crore today.
Sarang Chandak, CP
The opening of GOLD was quite good and the reports and word-of-mouth is also good. The shows are definitely going to pick up by evening. According to me, the movie should collect Rs 14-16 crore pan-India and Rs 75 lakh in my circuit today.
BH Basha, Mysore
The morning shows had around 40 per cent occupancy for GOLD, which is very good in my circuit. The evening shows will definitely be better than this. Occupancy might be 80-100 per cent as the reports are very good. The film should earn Rs 16-17 crore pan-India today and around Rs 1.5 crore in Mysore.
