Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, the much-awaited film from the Jurassic franchise, hit the screens on June 7. Apart from English, dubbed versions of the movie released in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. Box Office India spoke to a few distributors about how the movie opened on its first day and what the weekend looks like.
Rajesh Thadani, Mumbai Distributor
The opening for Jurassic World has been very good. The collections for day one have been close to Rs 5-6 crore but that is okay as the movie released on an odd day. The numbers should be better today. The weekend collections should be around Rs 30-35 crore, with the English version getting maximum business. People like the film and it should hold through the week. Race 3 will have an impact on its collections but, still, Jurassic World should have a good first week. After that, there will a dip in the numbers.
Debashish Dey, West Bengal Distributor
The Jurassic franchise has high curiosity value and expectations around this film were good. It has earned Rs 40-45 lakh in Bengal. Given that the previous version was also well-received and this movie too is well made, the response is positive. The first half of the film is good and the second half is okay. But advance bookings are good, and with strong word-of-mouth, it will pick up over the weekend. The release of Race 3 will not have much impact on this film and it should hold well in its second week as well. Growth is always gradual for films like this.
Sunil Bansal, Rajasthan Distributor
The collections of Jurassic World are low and it might seem as if language is an issue. But that is not so, given that Deadpool 2 and Avengers: Infinity War have done well. There is an issue with the 3D version of the film, which has affected the collections. Occupancy is around 25-30 per cent, which is not up to the mark for this franchise. There is barely any advance booking for the film and I don’t think there will much growth in the coming days.
B H Basha, Mysore Distributor
Despite being a huge brand, the film has not opened well. According to reports, it the film is not as good as the audience had expected it to do and this has impacted the numbers on its first day. But the film is expected to pick up over the weekend and things should be clearer after Sunday.
Vinay Choksey, CI Distributor
The reports of Jurassic World have been good in this region but that has not translated into great numbers on the opening day. The Hindi dubbed version of the film has not done as well as the English version, especially in the metro cities. The Hindi dubbed version is not expected to pick up. The release of Race 3 will negatively impact the film but we will have to see what happens at the weekend.
Ravi Machhar, Nizam Distributor
On the first day, Jurassic World has not been great, but the film will pick up from today. We should have a clearer picture later in the day. Since schools have not yet opened here, collections will improve and continue to grow over the weekend. Once schools reopen on Monday, we have to see how the movie sustains.
