What’s It All About?
The Nantucket Film Festival (NFF) was founded by brother-and-sister team Jill and Jonathan Burkhart in 1996. The festival promotes the cultural awareness and appreciation of the art of screenwriting in the world of cinema.NFF screens a world-class programme of independent, studio-produced, foreign, documentary and short films in every genre and includes many theatrical premieres. Approximately 20 feature films and 15-25 short films are selected annually, keeping in mind great screenwriting and storytelling.Now in its 18th year, NFF attracts visitors from all over to experience preview screenings, signature programmes and stand-out hospitality.

Opening Day Film
Monsters University: Full of laughter and heart, the film is an animation feature that tells the story of Mike Wazowski, who is a little monster who dreams of becoming scary.
Directed by Dan Scanlon, the film will open the festival.
Opening Night Film
Twenty Feet From Stardom: Directed by Morgan Neville, this documentary/feature film shines a spotlight on the untold true story of the back-up singers behind some of the greatest musical legends of rock-and-roll history.
In a World…: Lake Bell displays her multiple talents as a writer/director/actor in her delightful feature debut, In A World… Clever and full of comedic grace, the film follows Carol, who musters the courage to make a career as a voiceover star.
NFF’s most esteemed awards honour the careers of screenwriters who have brought distinction to the craft of writing for film.
This year, the fest will be awarding:

Ain’t Them Bodies Saint: Directed by David Lowery, the film tells the story of Bob Muldoon and Ruth Guthrie, an impassioned young outlaw couple who were apprehended after a shootout in the Texas hills.
