Any film in an actor’s career can become the turning point. Nayanthara, who is today considered as the number one actress in Tamil cinema has had her share of hits and misses. But every film that she has done has added an interesting dimension to her cinematic career. So when she says that she regrets doing a certain film, it must definitely have a valid reason.
In one of her interviews the actress is reported to have said that she regrets doing the AR Murugadoss directed Ghajini which starred Suriya and Asin in lead roles. The film was one of the biggest hits in Suriya’s career and even gave Asin her break in Bollywood when she starred in the Hindi remake with Aamir Khan. While the movie worked wonders for the two leads, it hardly had any impact for Nayanthara’s career graph. Rather not many people may even remember that she was in the film. Therefore it is no surprise that she regrets being part of the film.
It is not that she hasn’t done two heroine films before or done cameo appearances. She shared screen with Jyotika in Chandramukhi and was part of just one song in Sivaji The Boss and Sivakasi. But these films made Nayanthara as memorable as the film itself.
Of course now, there is no need for her to compromise as she is a superstar in Tamil cinema. She has single handedly carried films on her shoulders and that too successfully. Aramm, Kolamaavu Kokila and Imaikkaa Nodigal are few such films. She does have her share of the big banner, big star cast films. She is the lead opposite Chiranjeevi in Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy, in the Vijay-Atlee film and the biggest of them all; the Rajinikanth starrer Darbar, which is coincidentally directed by AR Murugadoss.
