The Maharashtra government, under the Asmita Scheme, will facilitate easy access to sanitary napkins for adolescent girls in all districts of Maharashtra. This initiative was announced by Akshay Kumar, whose movie Pad Man has raised awareness on the issue. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis was also present at the event in Mumbai. Sanitary pads will now be available in almost every village and sold by women of self-help groups. The government has launched a state-wide campaign to provide low-cost sanitary napkins to every girl in government schools across the state. In addition, sanitary napkins will be provided to women in rural communities at only 62 paisa per pad.
