After winning hearts in India, Parambrata Chattopadhyay’s directorial Shonar Pahar has been officially selected to be screened at the Chicago South Asian Film Festival. The festival that begins on September 20 will screen the Bengali drama two days into it in the ‘Fiction Feature Film’ category.
The film poignantly explores a unique relationship between a 70-year-old woman, Upama and a seven year old boy, Bitlu. Upama leads a lonely life in an old Kolkata house. Her relationship with her son has become somewhat bitter over the years. Seeing his mother’s bond with a child, the son realizes the huge void that has been created between them. It stars Tanuja Mukerji, Soumitra Chattopadhyay, Jisshu Sengupta, Shrijato Banerjee and Arunima Ghosh. The film that released in July this year received rave reviews and earned big at the box office.
Shonar Pahar will also be screened at the Indian International Film Festival of Boston that begins in October.
