2019 has been very successful for the Hindi film industry as far as box office business is concerned. We are half way through the year and we already have three 200-crore films like URI: The Surgical Strike, Bharat and Kabir Singh, and three 100-crore films like Total Dhamaal, Kesari and Gully Boy. Other than these, we also had films which did not touch the 100-crore mark but were still good box office performers. These films are Badla, De De Pyaar De, Luka Chuppi and Manikarnika - The Queen Of Jhansi. If we look at the Hindi film industry's business in the last decade, in terms of the first six months collective total, the numbers of 2019 is highest among all.
The total business of the Hindi films released from January 2019 to June 2019 is Rs 1850 crore approximately. Last year's business in the same duration was Rs 1761 crore; approximately five per cent lower than the current year. However, if we look at the table below, the numbers have been on the rise since 2016 but the ratio of the growth every year as compared to the previous year has been fluctuating. In the year 2016, the business jumped by approx. two per cent. In the year 2017 the jump was highest, by 42 per cent. But again it dropped by approx. 20 per cent and five per cent in the following two years.
