Q1 2019 brings cheer to film industry with earnings at Rs 1000 crore; up 17% from Q1 2018

Till the beginning of 2019, we all considered the year 2018 to be the most profitable for the Hindi film industry.  But 2019 has proved to be even better giving reason for huge cheer to stakeholders in the industry. The first quarter of 2019 has been exceptional for the Hindi film industry in terms of its box office numbers. All the Hindi films collectively have churned out more than Rs 1000 crore in the first quarter itself. If we compare it with the last year's first three months, which we considered financially profitable, the business of 2019 saw a jump of approximately 17 per cent over 2018. The total earning from Hindi films in 2018 was Rs 879 crore in the first quarter.

In 2019, there we had 67 Hindi releases while in 2018 we had 53 Hindi releases. Interestingly, if we look at the pattern of the total collections of each month, it is quite similar for both the years. The cumulative collection of January 2018 is Rs 314 crore while the cumulative collection of January 2019 is Rs 378 crore, resulting in a difference of approximately 20 per cent. The cumulative collection of February 2018 is Rs 205 crore while the cumulative collection of February 2019 is Rs 299 crore, resulting in a difference of approximately 46 per cent. The cumulative collection of March 2018 is Rs 360 crore while the cumulative collection of March 2019 is Rs 354 crore, resulting in a difference of less than two per cent.
