Rains play spoilsport at ICC Cricket WC but Bharat benefits with surge in footfalls on day 3

This year is not the first time that a cricket tournament, especially the ICC Cricket World Cup, has had its effect on the Bollywood business. This time, the 2019 world cup tournament and one of Bollywood's biggest films - Bharat made news because of their clash. Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif-starrer Bharat released on the same day when India's first world cup match took place opposite South Africa on June 5. Distributors and exhibitors were of the opinion that the match will affect the day one numbers of the film but not extensively and they proved to be correct. Bharat opened with a massive Rs 42.10 crore on its day one, becoming the all-time second highest first day earner among Hindi films.

The film made Rs 29.85 crore on its day two and Rs 21.14 crore on day three. As far as its day three numbers are concerned, Bharat's numbers increased in circuits like Gujarat, UP, Bihar and Nizam. That a WC match was cancelled in Bristol, England due to rains also worked in Bharat's favour. As a result, the footfalls in the cinema halls for the evening and night shows increased in the circuits mentioned above.
