Vaishali Samant records songs with Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle
Having crooned Marathi chartbusters like Aika dajiba and Kombadi palali, Vaishali Samant is excited about her composing for forthcoming Marathi film projects which will feature singing legends, Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle.
After almost four years, Mangeshkar will get behind the mic for the biopic Savitribai Phule, a story honouring the contribution of the first women educationalist, whereas Bhosale will be trying her hands on a new genre – dubstep, for the film Kaw Kaw Kawle.
Working with such veteran singers is every musicians dream and when a year ago Mangeshkar expressed that she felt out of place in the Indian film industry, it took a constant follow up for Samant, to persuade the legendary singer to be part of her film project.
Samant has recorded only one track till now for the biopic and is conceptualising the other tracks. The singer turned composer is planning to compose thematic songs for the film.
“I can never forget March 4 when I recorded the track with Lataji. I always wanted to compose an inspirational song for her as I can’t make her sing a romantic song at this age. This film came as an opportunity and I followed up with her for three weeks after sending her the song,” Samant says.
Speaking about Bhosale’s song, Samant states that the whole idea behind the track was to bring in some versatility and different flavour. “Whenever one speaks about versatility, the only name that crops up is Ashaji. The name of the film, Kaw Kaw Kawle is quite quirky and hence we were planning to have that flavour in the music. I wanted to direct Ashaji in a genre that she has never worked before on. Given her wide spectrum of experimentation, it was difficult to zero on any particular genre but we finally decided on dubstep. I am very keen on releasing Ashaji’s song and will possibly be an exclusive with Big FM,” she expresses.
The film comprises of four tracks including a devotional track sung by Swapnil Bandokar and Adarsh Shinde, which will be released next week. The album also enlists an Arabic item number sung by Samant and a romantic duet by an upcoming singer.
