Hindi filmmakers often turn to Hollywood for ‘inspirations’, at times directly lifting the entire plot. The stock seems to have exhausted and our Hindi film directors have begun looking at other avenues read — world cinema. Trade buzz has it that Anil Sharma’s magnum opus Veer is based on the 1962 Russian film Taras Bulba that in turn was based on Nikolai Gogol’s book by the same name. The story about Ukraine’s Cossack warriors and their campaign to defend their lands from the advancing Polish armies has been turned around to cater to Indian sensibilities. It is heard that Taras Bulba impressed Salman Khan and he suggested that it should be made into a film. When contacted Anil Sharma refused to comment.
