Sacred Games 2: Pankaj Tripathi sheds light on Guruji's 11-minute long monologue in Netflix Original series

Good times are here as the second season of Netflix Original series, Sacred Games is all set to start streaming from August 15, 2019! The first season of the series received wide critical acclaim and grabbed many headlines for its unique concept and the interesting face-off between Saif Ali Khan’s Sartaj Singh and Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s Ganesh Gaitonde who claimed that the city of Mumbai belongs to him.

The second season will revolve around Gaitonde’s teesra baap, Guruji. Pankaj Tripathi, who we got a glimpse of in season one, will play a very important role in this season. He will be seen delivering a monologue of about 11 minutes in one of the episodes. The Stree actor called this one-take shot one of the most challenging sequences of his career.

In a recent interview, he said, “While filming a particular scene in Sacred Games 2, I was required to deliver a monologue in one go, which, to me, was one of the most challenging sequences I have shot for so far.”

He added, “It was a magical experience and I had a great time shooting for that particular shot. I remember Anurag Kashyap asking me to deliver it once again, since nobody knew it would take as long as it did. So, for technical purposes, we did it all over again.”

He said that he was worried and scared to step into the shoes of Guruji. “For almost a week before the shoot, I isolated myself from everyone. My family got worried about what am I exactly preparing for. This was a challenging character and I was scared. When you are scared, you start working harder. I am not a method actor, I don’t cut off from the world but I had to shut myself off for this character and also shave my beard,” he said.

Knowing Tripathi’s conviction and dedication, we are sure that something very interesting is in store for us. His look in the series is already creating a lot of curiosity.

Talking about his character in the series based on Vikram Chandra’s novel of the same name, he had earlier said, "Guruji is that tsunami whose impact is hard to gauge from its origin. You’ll have to watch the entire season twice to understand every move he makes.”

The second season of Sacred Games, directed by Anurag Kashyap and Neeraj Ghaywan, also stars Kalki Koechlin, Ranvir Shorey, Luke Kenny, Jatin Sarna and Surveen Chawla among others.
