Sanjay Dutt returns to action mode with Prassthanam which will hit screens on September 20. The film also marks the Bollywood debut of Dutt’s banner Sanjay S Dutt Productions. His last three releases Bhoomi, Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster 3 and Kalank presented him in dramatic roles rather than his usual macho image. Though in SBG 3 he played a gangster it was the not in his usual style. The fact that none of these films worked at the box office, Dutt feels that it is not easy for him to break the action image.
In conversation with a daily, he said, “There is a certain image that I have of an action star; it's difficult to break it and do something else. It's difficult to reinvent. If people love me for my macho roles, it is my responsibility to give them that. Prassthanam has everything that the audience expects me to do.”
Talking about why he decided to make this film under his banner Dutt said, “It’s a great film that provides entertainment. We chose politics as the backdrop as we wanted to target the heartland of the country.” The actor, through his production house, wants to back meaningful cinema. “The aim is to make content-driven cinema without losing out on entertainment," he said.
Prassthanam directed by Deva Katta also stars Manisha Koirala, Jackie Shroff, Ali Fazal, Chunky Panday, Satyajeet Dubey and Amyra Dastur.
