When Baahubali 2 stormed the box office and set some phenomenal records last year, Hindi filmmakers had a new benchmark to beat. Now, one of these records has fallen, with Rajkumar Hirani’s biopic Sanju beating S S Rajamouli’s film as the highest single-day grosser of all time.
When it released last weekend, the Ranbir Kapoor-starrer took a record-breaking opening at the domestic box office and it grew from strength to strength over the weekend. On day 3, the first Sunday, the film registered a massive new record, as it collected Rs 46.2 crore, this beating Prabhas's Baahubali 2 (Rs 46.05 crore) and Salman Khan's Tiger Zinda Hai (Rs 44.96 crore) as the highest-ever single-day grosser.
Released in 4,000 screen across India, Sanju has been loved by one and all. The positive reviews and fantastic word-of-mouth publicity meant that the movie ran house full almost across the first weekend. In fact, the movie has collected Rs 117.85 crore over the first weekend at the domestic box office, making it the highest opening weekend grosser of 2018 to date. It has also become Ranbir Kapoor's highest opening weekend grossers and the highest non-holiday opening weekend grosser for a biopic.
Apart from these, Sanju has broken several other records, and with the film trending so well and having no competition at the moment, we are sure it will break several other records pretty soon. In the meantime, check out the list of top 10 highest single-day grossers of all time right here.
