Post the release of period drama Ek Je Chhilo Raja during Durga puja, Srijit Mukherji will be back to the sets to direct his next. Titled Vinci Da, the thriller will have Rudranil Ghosh and Ritwick Chakraborty play the protagonists. Sohini Sarkar and Anirban Bhattacharya have been roped in to play pivotal characters. As the name suggests, the film will have a plotline connected to polymath Leonardo Da Vinci.
Vinci Da is set to Mukherji’s third thriller after Prosenjit Chatterjee starrer Baishe Srabon and Chotushkone featuring Aparna Sen. While Ghosh and Bhattacharya are common names in his films, this film is set to be his second collaboration with Sarkar and Chakraborty after Rajkahini and Nirbaak respectively.
The director has his kitty full and had an amazing run at the box office this year. Earlier this year, he directed Uma that opened to rave reviews and raked in huge numbers. The film centres on a young girl, Uma who is suffering from a fatal disease and wants to fulfill her wish of seeing the celebrated Durga puja of Kolkata.
Ek Je Chhilo Raja, on the other hand, is the story of Mahendra Kumar Chowdhury, the middle prince of the Bhawal Estate. Twelve years after his death, a hermit comes back to the estate where people start noticing him and a rumour spreads that he is the lost prince of Bikrampur estate.
The filmmaker had recently wrapped up the shoot of Shah Jahan Regency. A modern adaptation of Bengali writer Shankar’s 1962 novel, Chowringhee, the story follows the journey of a young and enterprising man named Shankar. Set in Chowringhee in the 1950s, the novel also throws light on the socio-economic and political life of yesteryear Calcutta.
Coming back to Vinci Da, it is slated to release in 2019. Shree Venkatesh Films will be producing the film.
