The Sundance Film Festival (SFF) takes place annually in Utah, and is one of the largest independent film festivals in the US. The festival has introduced global audiences to some of the most groundbreaking films of the past three decades.
The festival is a program of the non-profit Sundance Institute founded by Robert Redford in 1981, in the mountains of Sundance, Utah. The institute has always provided a space for independent artistes to explore their stories free from commercial and political pressures.
The 2019 edition of the festival will showcase 117 feature films.
OPENING FILM
The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind
Chiwetel Ejiofor’s directorial debut, a true story, is based on a book of the same name. The film revolves around a 13-year-old boy who builds a wind turbine and helps his village after reading about it in a book. Maxwell Simba and Ejiofor lead the cast.
CLOSING FILM
Troop Zero
Set in rural Georgia in 1977, this comedy-drama flick talks about an elementary school misfit who, in order to win the chance of being recorded at NASA’s Golden Record, forms a troop of Birdie Scouts. The Bert & Bertie film stars Viola Davis, Allison Janney and Mckenna Grace.

EXHIBITIONS
Films and art that defy the traditional methods of storytelling and are made using cutting-edge technologies such augmented reality works, mixed reality works, digital puppeting demos, mobile VR programs and location-based experiences, among others, will be showcased to audiences.
PANELS
The panel discussion is divided into categories such as Power of Story, Cinema Café, New Frontier Panels, Festival Panels and Partner Panels. These segments will provide an opportunity to audiences to engage in a discussion with storytellers and artistes about their craft. Filmmakers will also share the stage and exchange words on the emerging themes and technologies of creating movies in the modern world.
