What’s It All About?
Launched in 1991, the Tromsø International Film Festival (TIFF) not only acts as a popular film festival for the audience but also an important meeting point for Norwegian filmmakers and the international film industry. Taking the Norwegian film industry to the international platform, the festival is in its 26th edition and aims to screen quality films for the local, national and international audience.
The festival is host to 1,668 accredited participants including 145 media representatives and 364 volunteers featured across five screening venues and also an outdoor cinema. It also hosts a number of international seminars and events for film professionals.
Indian Connect
Having screening popular feature films from across the world, TIFF this year will feature two Indian films – Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Angry Indian Goddesses. Directed by Kabir Khan, Bajrangi Bhaijaan is a Hindi film drama about an Indian man with a magnanimous spirit who does all he can to help a mute girl from Pakistan to return home. Pan Nalin’s Angry Indian Goddesses tells the story of seven girls. The film starts with Frieda, played by Sarah-Jane Dias, inviting her closest girlfriends to Goa to announce her wedding, which turns into a wild bachelorette party. The film is receiving accolades from around the world and has been sold to over 32 countries.

Doing Good
Directed by Margreth Olin, Doing Good is about Joralf Gjerstad (born in 1926), who hails from the small village Snåsa in Trøndelag. The director has filmed 22 peoples’ encounters with Gjerstad, who is known as a person with “warm hands” in Norway. The film is about how a compassionate gesture from a total stranger changes lives.

Lenny Abrahamson’s directorial is about a five-year-old boy Jack (Jacob Tremblay), who is held captive for years in an enclosed space along with his mother (Brie Larson). Room focuses on Jack and his mother’s adjustment to life outside the captivity of their room.
