Shahid Kapoor hopes to get a U/A certificate for his upcoming film, Kabir Singh
The Udta Punjab actor Shahid Kapoor launched the trailer of his upcoming release Kabir Singh today, i.e. May 13, 2019. During the trailer launch Kapoor hoped that the film would get a U/A certificate (instead of an A certificate). The film is yet to be certified by the Central Board of Film Certification.
Kabir Singh is a remake of the Telugu hit titled Arjun Reddy that was released in the year 2017. Kapoor plays the titular role in the film, a guy who has serious anger issues. As his ex-lover from medical college, played by Kiara Advani, ties the knot with someone else, Kabir Singh loses his temper miserably and fails as a surgeon. The actor is shown using foul language and consuming drugs and liquor in the film.
Speaking about the Censor certificate, Kapoor says, “We are hoping to get a U/A certificate. We don't know whether we will get it or not. There is only belief that there is no reason for us not to get the U/A certificate. It is important that today we are able to tell stories honestly without sugar coating,” adding, “I think audiences are mature enough to understand that and censors should give into that. There is nothing in the film which is off-putting. It is an honest depiction and it should be allowed to showcase itself.”
Written and directed by Sandeep Vanga, the film was earlier clashing with the Kangana Ranaut and Rajkummar Rao-starrer Mental Hai Kya but the release date of the latter was shifted to July 26. Kabir Singh will now have a solo release on June 21.
