Priya Banerjee (Sia), who made her Bollywood debut with Jazbaa has succeeded in creating a mark on audience with her soulful act. Over to her.
The response has been outstanding and I have been getting calls from all over India. I didn’t have a whole lot of screen time but it seems everyone noticed my work and I am very happy about that.
On bagging Jazbaa
That’s a funny story. Someone had tagged Sanjay (Gupta) sir on Twitter, which had the trailer of one of my films. He watched the trailer and asked casting director Honey Trehan to call me for the role. I believe that’s the power of social media. When I met Honey and Sanjay sir, he told me about my role, which I loved.
Making her Bollywood debut
I had lived in Mumbai for three years when I was taking an acting course. Back then, I was offered South films, so I moved there. But like every actor, I too wanted to work in Bollywood but I never went all out to look for work here. Instead, I grabbed offers which came my way. So when I was offered Jazbaa, I knew the film belonged to Aishwarya and Irrfan but I also thought this would be an apt film to make my Hindi debut as a large audience would watch it. I just saw the script’s potential and decided to take up Jazbaa as my debut film.
Since I was a child, I was very active in theatre and cultural shows. I enrolled in a film school and then things started happening. Then I was offered a film titled Kiss in Telugu, which was a superhit. It was a romcom, and although I didn’t know the language, the audience loved my work. After that, there was no looking back.
