Week 1 comparison: Kabir Singh’s cumulative footfall 40% higher than Gully Boy in top four multiplex chains

Kabir Singh and Gully Boy, both had a similar target audience - the youngsters. Gully Boy that released on February 14 this year, featured Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt in the lead while Kabir Singh that released on June 21, had Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani as the lead.

Even though both were non-holiday films and targeted youngsters as their audience, there was a difference in the theatre occupancy in the first week. In the top four multiplex chains of India, i.e. PVR, Inox, Carnival and Cinepolis, Gully Boy had a total of 36.57 lakh people coming to theatres while Kabir Singh had 51.33 lakh people coming to theatres. Despite the fact that Gully Boy had an eight-day week while Kabir Singh had a seven-day week, the latter's occupancy in the first week was 40.38 per cent higher than that of the former.

The table shows that in PVR, Kabir Singh's admit was 33.85 per cent higher than that of Gully Boy, in INOX it was 42.80 per cent higher; in Carnival it was 70.61 per cent higher and in Cinepolis it was 15.88 per cent higher.
