There were two Hindi films this year that released for a specific target audience – the youngsters. One was Gully Boy starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt, which released on February 14 and another was Student Of The Year 2 (SOTY2) starring Tiger Shroff, which released on May 10.
Even though both are non-holiday films and targeted youngsters as their audience, there is a huge difference when it comes to the theatre occupancy in the first week. In the top four multiplex chains of India, i.e. PVR, Inox, Carnival and Cinepolis, Gully Boy had a total 36.57 lakh people coming to theatres while SOTY2 had only 17.29 lakh people coming to theatres. The latter has not even registered 50 per cent of occupancy than that of the former. Gully Boy, however, had an eight-day week while SOTY2 had a seven-day week. See the details in the table mentioned below:
|First week admit compare|
|Multiplex||Thursday||1st week||Gully Boy 8 Days||SOTY 2|
The table shows that in PVR, SOTY2’s admit was 49.84 per cent that of Gully Boy, in INOX it was 48.52 per cent that of Gully Boy; in Carnival it was 47.26 per cent that of Gully Boy, and in Cinepolis it was 39.11 per cent that of Gully Boy.
