Week 1 footfall comparison: The Lion King v/s Captain Marvel

The Jon Favreau directorial, The Lion King, recently became the second highest Hollywood grosser of 2019 by surpassing the lifetime numbers of Captain Marvel. The film also crossed the Rs 100-crore mark in 10 days of its release. The lifetime business of Captain Marvel is Rs 78 crore and the business of The Lion King so far is Rs 105.57 crore approximately. 

As per the table below, we have calculated the number of audience that arrived at the cinema halls in the first week of both the films. As per the week one footfalls data in top four multiplex chains of India - PVR, Inox, Carnival and Cinepolis, more than 25 lakh people arrived to watch The Lion King while on the other hand around 19 lakh people watched Captain Marvel. The difference comes to 29.83 per cent.

In PVR, the week one occupancy of The Lion King was 38.92 per cent higher than that of Captain Marvel, in Inox it was 26.80 per cent higher, in Carnival it was 38.99 per cent higher and in Cinepolis it was 9.19 per cent higher.
