Filmmakers have broken age-old, clichéd practices and are going with their gut in 2018. Like, in the first half of this year, we saw two films with very similar names releasing in theatres. There was the Pulkit Samrat and Kriti Kharbanda-starrer Veerey Ki Wedding releasing on March 2, which bombed, and the superhit multi-starrer Veere Di Wedding, which released on June 1.
The interesting thing is that there was a time when filmmakers would be terrified that the title of their film would be similar to some other film. They feared that that the audience would confuse one film with the other. But such insecurities seem to have vanished as filmmakers know that the content of the film is what works, eventually. In the second half of 2018 too, we have Merey Pyarey Prime Minister and The Accidental Prime Minister. But given that the content of each film is very different from the other, the makers are confident enough to stick with the titles they have chosen.
