We say old is gold! Well, there was this golden era in the Hindi film industry where love stories were presented in the most simplistic but heart-touching manner. A strong man with high principles, an emotionally vulnerable female, a mean villain and an all-time supportive best friend- a mixture of these elements is hardly seen in the love stories of today.
Let’s talk about one of the classic love stories of the '60s - the film is none other than that starring the legendary actor Shashi Kapoor and Nanda, Jab Jab Phool Khile. A classic romantic blockbuster, directed by Suraj Prakash, it became the second highest grosser of 1965 by earning Rs 2.75 crore at the box office. The film became so popular among the audience that after 30 years of its release, another film starring Aamir Khan and Karisma Kapoor, Raja Hindustani, was made in the year 1996 which was heavily inspired from this classic romance.
This second highest grosser of 1965, if calculated in terms of the value of gold today, comes to Rs 1200 crore plus in 2019! Confused? Read on for the explanation…
In the year 1965, the cost of 10 grams of gold was just Rs 72; today gold of the same weight costs Rs 34,100. As per our calculation, the worth of the total business of Jab Jab Phool Khile in today’s date would be Rs 1282.05 crore. Don’t be surprised, we have many more of these hundreds of crores of worth films to talk about in the future! Stay tuned.
